## Relating division to multiplication

Just like addition and subtraction are opposite (or inverse) operations, multiplication and division are opposites too! If you know your multiplication facts, it will be easy to learn division.

Multiplication helps us find the total number of objects in all. On the other hand, division helps us find the number in each group. Notice how the two facts below are related.

When you relate multiplication to division you can find the answer to any division problem!! That's why it is so important to know your multiplication facts.

For example:

Since I know 5 x 6 = 30,

then I know 30 ÷ 6 = 5 and 30 ÷ 5 = 6. WOW!
